The newly named Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) program now encompasses topics of feminism, gender, and politics. Gender studies will focus on the way society creates, patterns, and rewards understandings of femininity and masculinity.  It will explore gendered existence: what it means to be feminine and masculine and how this interacts with other aspects of identity, such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and sexuality. WGSS co-coordinators are Dr. Karen Ritzenhoff (left), associate professor of communication, and Dr. Katherine Hermes, associate professor of history.
