Advising takes many forms. Perhaps you
have already discussed your academic plans with a
trusted friend, a currently enrolled student, or a
relative. Discussing your program and goals with
someone who knows you well can be very useful, but such
individuals should never be your primary resource. The
University provides a structure of sources of
information and advisors to you with program planning
and course selection.
If you've selected a major,
advising is provided by a faculty member in the
department which offers your major. These departmental
advisors are experts in the discipline in which you plan
to specialize. If you have declared a major, contact the
department chairperson for the name, phone number
and office hours of an advisor.
The Advising Center
serves all Undeclared Majors as well as those students
seeking advice for a change of major.
All students who have
not declared a major should come to The Advising Center
for academic advising. The Advising Center, in
collaboration with the Dean of Arts and Sciences,
coordinates the advising of all undeclared students.
Information on majors and career areas, testing to
assist students in deciding on majors and careers, and
individual help on clarifying goals and establishing
academic and experiential plans to meet them are
available at this office. New students, students who
have not declared majors, and persons who are thinking
about changing majors should come to the advising Center
for assistance. The staff helps students to make choices
that are in keeping with their values, interests,
personalities, and abilities.
IF YOU ARE NOT
SURE WHOM YOU SHOULD SEE FOR ADVISING, THE ADVISING
CENTER WILL REFER YOU TO THE RIGHT PERSON.
