American Studies
 The American Studies minor
gives students the opportunity to explore the diverse culture of the
United States in an interdisciplinary context. In consultation with an
American Studies advisor, students are encouraged to shape an
individualized course of study to meet their own academic goals.
The certificate in American
Studies is primarily for international students who come to the United
States for an introductory program in American Studies or who wish to take
such a program at a CCSU extension college abroad.
CCSU's American Studies program derives its
excellence from its distinguished professors, significant library research
holdings, exceptional academic conferences, and rich connection to
Connecticut historical study. Professors who teach in the American Studies
program are nationally recognized scholars who have published widely on
American history, literature, and art. The University houses special
collections of relevance to American studies. Recent conferences at CCSU
have focused on Native Americans and the law, reparations for slavery, and
America, post 9/11. And the noted academic journal, Connecticut History,
is edited and published at the University. The faculty bring their
extensive scholarly learning to enliven classrooms and guide students in
their study and research.
American Studies is an exciting academic
discipline: where else would you encounter scholarly articles bringing
together John Winthrop, Benjamin Franklin, David Letterman, and "Who
