CCSU Celebrates the International Year of Astronomy (IYA) January 2009 Galileo Anniversaries

January 7 -13, 2009 marks the 399th anniversary of Galileo's discovery of the four largest moons of Jupiter, now called the Galilean moons in his honor. It is also the birth month of physicist Stephen Hawking, who likes to remind people that he was born (January 8, 1942) on the 300th anniversary of Galileo's death (January 8, 1642).

All observing events are weather-permitting only. Planetarium shows, Astronomy Academy, Astronomy 101, and public talks are held rain or shine.
Public talks are geared for grades 7-12 and above.
Astronomy Academy: This is a year-long series of hands-on family workshops geared for children grades 3-7. Younger children may participate. Parents must remain on-site and assume responsibility for their children. Some events may repeat, so read the titles carefully. All Academy workshops are by RSVP only and are limited to 24 participants. Please call to cancel 24 hours before if you cannot honor your RSVP so we can contact the waiting list. Students who participate in 5 or more Academy events will receive a certificate.
