The Athletic Training Education Program requires the student to make a serious time commitment to the clinical aspect of the program. The athletic training student's participation in the clinical rotations is critical to their academic success. Athletic training students are expected to be present at all practices, scheduled treatments, and competitions.  A great deal of time is demanded of the athletic training student; therefore outside employment must take a secondary role during the academic year. As indicated in the Clinical Experience Progression every student must participate in one entire preseason experience during the athletic training student's senior year.  All athletic training students will be required to report for a CCSU preseason camp. Dates vary year to year, but typically the athletic training student will report in early August and participate in this experience through Labor Day.  All outside employment must be terminated prior to the start of  the preseason clinical experience, so please plan accordingly.  The preseason clinical experience is clinical requirement of the athletic training education program at CCSU and is not an option nor can it be partially fulfilled.

The profession of athletic training does not tolerate tardiness or absence from assignments and requires flexibility in regards to assignments.  The athletic training student must be prepared and punctual for assignments.  If a situation arises in which the athletic training student must be late or miss an assignment, he/she should immediately contact the supervising athletic trainer. The following principles need to be followed:

  1. The athletic training student is expected to report for clinical and sport assignments promptly as scheduled.

  2. Athletic Training schedules will take priority. No outside work arrangements will be scheduled to fit your athletic training assignments.

  3. There are to be absolutely NO changes in assigned clinical schedules, practice or game coverage. Please do not ask!

  4. Attendance is mandatory at all staff meetings and in-services.
