CCSU's athletic training education program requires the athletic training student to document a minimum of 800 hours of supervised clinical experience.  Athletic training students who anticipate applying for licensure in states that require documentation of clinical hours will need this information.

Hour cards for documenting the athletic training student's clinical hours are to be kept in the athletic training facility.  The originals will be placed in the student's academic file.   Each athletic training student will have two sets of hour cards; one documenting supervised clinical hours and the second set documenting pre-clinical/unsupervised clinical hours. The athletic training student should keep in mind the following when documenting hours:

  1. Record hours to the nearest one-half hour.

  2. Count hours that are supervised by a certified athletic trainer on the “supervised card”.

  3. Count hours for pre-clinical and unsupervised hours on the “unsupervised card”.

  4. DO NOT count travel time to and from away events.

  5. DO NOT count lodging time.  You may include an appropriate amount of time for treating and evaluating injuries that may have occurred while on overnight trips.

  6. DO NOT count hours while dining with the team.

  7. Record hours according to the sport being covered (see sample card).

  8. If you are assigned to a sport, the daily total should be credited to that sport.

  9. If you are performing athletic training duties and also covering a sport, then split the hours accordingly.

  10. The documentation of hours is based on an honor system.............be honest.

  11. All hours are to be totaled on the last day of the month by the athletic training student.  Totals are to be calculated for each row and column.

  12. DO NOT make stray additions or attempt to keep running totals on your monthly cards.
