TEAM COVERAGE GENERAL POLICIES

Pre-Practice

  1. Arrive 15-30 minutes prior to time athlete is to report to the athletic training facility.

  2. Prepare equipment and check athletic training kit daily.

  3. Prepare Athletes.  Do not allow athletes to be late.

  4. Prepare injury report, discuss with ATC and provide copy to Coach prior to practice.

  5. Injured athletes must also be on time for practice.

Practice

  1. Be on time to practice - your equipment must be packed and ready for transportation to the field.

  2. Observe athletes returning to competition from injuries.

  3. Observe for injuries, dangerous drills, and environmental hazards.

  4. Perform and monitor safe functional activity for injured athletes.

  5. Have note pad and record injuries on the field.

  6. Absolutely no studying or reading during practice coverage.

Post Practice

  1. Replace used equipment in kits.

  2. Clean and return all equipment to proper place.

  3. Record all injuries.

  4. Re-evaluate injuries and provide treatment.

  5. Instruct athletes in regards to overnight instruction for injury.

Away Games

  1. Day prior to departure communicate with ATC regarding schedule etc.  If traveling as a first responder, communicate directly with the head coach to confirm schedule of departure and provide your phone number in case of a schedule change.

  2. Dress appropriately.

  3. Arrive 30-60 minutes prior to departure time.

  4. Prepare equipment.  Check supplies.

  5. Re-evaluate injured athletes and provide treatments.

  6.  Report to Coach regarding injured athletes.

  7. Check Host Athletic Trainer information sheet for personnel, and services available at away contest.

Home Games

  1. Arrive one hour prior to time Coach wants athletes ready for warm-up.  Usually three hours prior to game time in football & baseball.

  2. Prepare athletes, consult with ATC regarding injuries and playing status, then inform Coach.

  3. Prepare equipment and means of transportation.

  4. Prepare communication - check battery levels of cellular phones prior to leaving for fields.

  5. Greet visiting athletic trainer.
