International Exchange Students
(J-1 Visa)
Overview
Central Connecticut State University (CCSU)
has exchange agreements with partner institutions around the
world. Most of these partnership agreements provide for the
exchange of students. Most exchange programs are on a
reciprocal (one-for-one) basis and exchange students pay
tuition at their home institution for their program at CCSU.
International students who come to CCSU through an exchange
or sponsored program are eligible for a J-1 visa, which is
the visa category that provides students with exchange
visitor privileges. CCSU also encourages all international students
to become fully engaged in campus life, contributing to the
internationalization of the CCSU community and its
curriculum. This is usually accomplished through active
participation in the International Relations Club (IRC).
J-1 visa exchange students enjoy all the rights and
privileges of fee-paying matriculated students at CCSU
during their stay, but they
have not been accepted into a degree program at CCSU. They
are at CCSU as visiting students, and all academic credit is
presumed to transfer back to their home institution to count
towards their home institution degree requirements. Exchange
students are not eligible to receive a degree from CCSU
while on the exchange program.
Please note:
In order to apply for the exchange program, CCSU must have a
formal exchange agreement with the student's home
institution or sponsoring agency. CCSU will not accept an
application directly from a student so students should apply
through their home institution Exchange Coordinator. To
learn if your university is an exchange partner with CCSU,
please view our partner sites.
