Shimon Peres: Vance Lecturer
Shimon
Peres, former Prime Minister of Israel, delivered the CCSU 2003 Robert
C. Vance Distinguished Lecture. Peres discussed the United States’ war
with Iraq and the political and social differences surrounding Israel in
relation to Arab nations and the United States. He said, “This war is
eye-opening and will serve well not only the United States and the
coalition countries but also all the Arab nations of the world.” Peres
believes that a peaceful resolution to the disagreements between nations
should be considered. Prior to the lecture, Peres met with students in a
special seminar. Peres was head of the Labor Party, Minister of Foreign
Affairs, Deputy Prime Minister, and Prime Minister of Israel. He is the
founder of the Peres Center for Peace, a non-profit organization that
promotes peace and economic stability in the Middle East. Peres has
written 10 books, including his memoir, Battling for Peace. The
Robert C. Vance Lecture Series is a program of the Robert C. Vance
Charitable Foundation and the CCSU Foundation, Inc.
