Guy Crundwell |
Advisory
Committee on Academic Advising |
I firmly believe
that teaching faculty should serve as contacts for students in
order to understand professional choices and to understand
choices within the major. Teaching faculty should act as
mentors- explaining curricular choices, research options, co-ops
and internships, and preparing students for future endeavors.
However since they receive no work load credit, they should not
be troubleshooting student schedules, running around working out
overrides, or doling out PIN numbers for registration. My
objective for serving on the committee is to point out that
faculty can still be mentors and valuable resources for students
without the need to troubleshoot the administrative wranglings
of signing up for classes and setting schedules. Without work
load release or resources for instructional faculty, the
administrative side to advising should be left to the staff at
the new Center. |
