FYE Steering Committee Minutes

2- 9-11

Present: P. Mihalek, S. Hazan, J. Conway, C. Pudlinski, M. Leake, M. Levvis, J. Page

1.   The minutes were approved as submitted with emendating that Meg Levvis was at the previous meeting.

2.   Three new FYS classes - Committee approved courses.  Discussed in which study areas the courses would be placed.

3.   Spring 2011 FYE classes - Classes are full, four sections.  Four or five sections will be the norm for spring semester.  The classes are composed mostly of transfer students coming in with less than fifteen credits, who did not take a FYE class at the pervious institution that they attended or students who it is their second semester at CCSU who missed taking a FYE course in the fall.

4.   FYE Budget (Meg Leake) - Currently operating with one time funding.  There are enough funds to cover the costs of the program through the 2011-2012 school year. 

5.   Planning/discussion:  Peer leaders & FYE 301

a.   Date for peer leader training The peer leaders do not want the training to be held on reading days.  The committee discussed alternate dates for peer training.

b.   Recruiting additional peers (criteria for acceptance?) Peer leaders must have a 3.0 GPA and must be engaged on campus.  The committee discussed the possibility of senior peer leader continuing to be peer leaders after becoming graduate students next year.

c.   Recruiting additional faculty members

d.   Feedback from peers and faculty Discussed likes and dislike that peer leaders had about their training. 

e.   Re-designing FYE 301

6.   Selecting a date for new FYE faculty development/training The committee discussed holding a full day of training on Friday, May 20th compared to two half days of training on the last two Fridays of the semester.
