International applicants must submit the following information in addition to the application form, application fee, and any program-specific application requirements:
An Affidavit of Support (Declaration of Finance) form, which includes provisions for indicating and verifying financial capability and responsibility (not applicable for students in programs that are completed entirely on-line). This form and supporting documents should be sent to the Center for International Education at CCSU, Barnard Hall, Rm. 123;
Official transcripts and records of undergraduate and graduate studies from all institutions attended.
Original translations of academic records produced and verified by the educational institution in the home country, or by a U.S. academic credential translation service, if such materials are not in English. Official notarized copies of originals are acceptable as well
An original foreign credentials evaluation report from a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or by the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO). A list of NACES members can be found at http://www.naces.org/members.html. The evaluation should include verification of the U.S. equivalent of a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
Unless waived by the University, proof of competency in English as indicated by the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a score of no less than 550 on the paper-based test, 213 on the computer-based test, or 79 on the Internet-based test (iBT); a 6.5 on the IELTS is also acceptable.
NOTE: Conditional Admission may be offered if an international student meets all academic and departmental requirements for admission, including the approval of the graduate school, but demonstrates “insufficient English language proficiency” by a TOEFL score that does not meet the CCSU graduate school requirements but has at least a score of 483 (paper), 160 (computer), 56 (IBT), or 5.5 on the IELTS.
Information about the TOEFL test is available from the Educational Testing Service, P.O. Box 6151, Princeton, NJ 08541-6154, USA. An undergraduate academic degree from a U.S. institution of higher education or from an overseas institution where the primary medium of instruction is English may be considered as proof of English competency. Central Connecticut State University reserves the right to require additional evidence of competency or to require that students admitted to graduate programs take courses to develop their English language skills. Decisions regarding the need for such courses will be made by the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of the School of Graduate Studies in conjunction with the student’s advisor and appropriate staff from the George R. Muirhead Center for International Education. Students seeking language proficiency support or information about the TOEFL test may contact The Intensive English Language Program.
Central Connecticut State University is authorized under federal law to enroll non-immigrant, permanent resident students, provided they meet all admission standards. These students will be required to submit proof of immigration status.
Presently financial aid is not available for non-U.S. students. A limited number of graduate assistantships may be awarded to students who are available for on-campus interviews and/or who have successfully completed a semester of graduate study at Central Connecticut State University.
International student application deadlines are May 1 for the fall semester and November 1 for the spring semester. Please refer to the graduate studies website for program specific deadlines under “Applying” at www.ccsu.edu/grad
