Important Information for Employees Assigned a CCSU Laptop
It is very important that you bring your CCSU-owned laptop to campus and connect it to the wired network at least once every 30 days. When you connect your CCSU-owned laptop to the wired network, it receives security updates, renews the Microsoft licensing, and allows it to report to the Identity Finder server. Here is what you should do at least once every 30 days:
- Plug your laptop in to the wired network and a power source.
- Turn the laptop on and leave it powered on overnight. This will allow software updates, McAfee Anti-Virus scan and updates, and Microsoft licensing verification to run on the computer.
By the designated intervals (by February 15th, May 15th, and September 15th), you should also run an Identity Finder scan on the hard drive of the laptop, your e-mail, and the M drive. The laptop will need to be on the wired network and should remain logged in while the Identity Finder scan is running. You may use other programs while it is running. When it is done scanning, process your results and exit out of Identity Finder – this will allow it to report that a scan was run for auditing purposes. Other information for laptop users:
- We recommend that you refrain from storing files on the hard drive of the laptop.
- You may access Microsoft Office files stored on a CCSU netshare (M, S, U drives) using our Remote Application Server at https://apps.ccsu.edu.
If you do not have an available wired network port in your office, you may bring the laptop to our Walk-in Support Center located in Willard Hall room 013 for assistance.
