Forefront Online Security for Exchange is an anti-spam solution for your CCSU e-mail account. Any messages blocked by Forefront will remain available for review for 15 days from the date it is received. For more information about Forefront, visit our FAQ page.

You will receive a notification e-mail from quarantine@messaging.microsoft.com every 3 days that details the messages that Forefront marked as spam. You may use this notification to manage spam messages or you may log in to your Forefront Quarantine Mailbox account.

Managing Spam using the Notification E-Mail

  1. From your Inbox, open the Spam Quarantine Notification message.
  2. If a message was incorrectly marked as spam, click on the Not Junk link to move it to your Inbox and submit a copy to the Forefront Spam Team for analysis.
  3. To read a message prior to determining if it was incorrectly marked as spam, click on the Move to Inbox link to have the message delivered to your Inbox. To read the message without having it delivered to your Inbox, click on the Subject link and log in to your Forefront Quarantine Mailbox account. If you determine that the message was incorrectly identified as spam, click on the Not Junk link. If the message is spam, you do not need to do anything as it will be automatically deleted after 15 days.

Reporting Messages as Spam

Spam messages may get through Forefront and delivered to your Outlook or Entourage Inbox. When this happens, forward a copy of the message to junkmailsubmission@ccsu.edu and include the Internet headers:

Outlook 2007/2010 for Windows:

  1. Open the spam message.
  2. From the Message tab, in the Options/Tags group, click on the Dialog Box Launcher button (the small square next to the word Options/Tags).
  3. Select all the text in the Internet Headers box, then press Ctrl+C to copy the text into your clipboard. Close the Message Options window.
  4. From the spam message, click on the Forward button.
  5. Press Ctrl+V to paste the header text into the top of the message. Leave a blank line between the headers and the message body.
  6. Address the message to junkmailsubmission@ccsu.edu and click on the Send button, then delete the message from your Inbox.

Outlook 2011 for Mac:

  1. From the Inbox, right-click the e-mail message (to right-click, hold down the Control key and click the mouse).
  2. Click on View Source.
  3. The Internet Headers will open in a separate TextEdit window.
  4. Select all of the text in the TextEdit window and use the Copy command to copy it to your clipboard.
  5. From the spam message, click on the Forward button.
  6. Paste the header text into the top of the message. Leave a blank line between the headers and the message body.
  7. Address the message to junkmailsubmission@ccsu.edu  and click on the Send button, then delete the message from your Inbox.

Entourage:

  1. Log into your Entourage Account.
  2. Open the spam message.
  3. From the View/Message drop-down menu, select Internet Headers.
  4. Click once so that your curser is in the header information area now at the top of your message window.
  5. Go to the "Edit" drop-down menu, select "Select All". All of the header information should now be highlighted.
  6. Go again to the "Edit" drop-down menu, and select "Copy".
  7. Go to the "Message" drop-down menu, select "Forward".
  8. Enter the address: junkmailsubmission@mail.ccsu.edu in the "To:" field of your new message.
  9. You want to paste the header information above the beginning of the message, so place your curser at the top of the message, two lines above the words "Forwarded Message".
  10. Choose Paste from the Edit drop-down menu and the header information will appear.
  11. Select the "Send Now" button in the upper left-hand corner of the message window.
