Now, for the first time, Microsoft is giving its valuable software developer and design tools [DreamSpark] directly to students worldwide at no charge. (

Please note that CCSU does not endorse or support this product.

  1. Navigate to
  2. Click "Get Started."
  3. Select the desired package and click "Sign In".
  4. You will be directed to a sign in page. If you do not have a Windows Live ID then click "Sign Up" and follow steps a-f below. Otherwise, fill in the e-mail address and password boxes and click "Sign In". Proceed to step 5 below.
    Setting up Windows Live ID:
    1. Check off the box saying "Yes, use my e-mail address" then click "Continue".
    2. Fill out the form with your e-mail address, password, question, secret answer, and the verification characters and click "Continue".
    3. Enter in your information for the MSN account page, including birth date, gender, industry, occupation, state, and zip code. Click "Continue".
    4. Re-type your e-mail address and click "I Accept" after reading the agreements.
    5. Click "Continue".
    6. Enter the e-mail address and password you set-up for your Windows Live ID and click "Sign In".
  5. Select a product to download. Click "Verify." You will be directed to the student verification page. At this time, CCSU is not listed, click on "Other Verification Options".
  6. Under the US section, click on the hyperlinked "here" (this will take you to the Microsoft DreamSpark section on
  7. Click "Add to Cart".
  8. Click "Checkout".
  9. Unless you have purchased from before, you will need to verify that you are a student. Check off, "I have never ordered a product from JourneyEd that..." and click "Continue".
  10. Click "I am a College Student" and then click "Continue".
  11. Keep the "Yes" bubble filled in and click "Continue".
  12. Fill in your first and last name, SSN, and birth date, and then click "Verify Me." You will be directed to a new and returning customers page. Note: Special characters
    (. / ? * etc.) can not be used.
  13. If you are new to, fill out the e-mail address and password boxes and click "Continue".
  14. Fill in the shipping information even though nothing is being shipped. Note: If you don’t want e-mails regarding deals and other things click the "Do not subscribe" button, then click "Continue".
  15. Click "Continue" on the next page.
  16. Fill in the security question and answer, then click "Continue".
  17. Click "Checkout".
  18. An e-mail will be sent to you within 24 hours of checkout. Follow the link in the e-mail that will direct you to the Microsoft DreamSpark download site.
  19. If you haven’t logged in already it will prompt you for your Windows Live ID and password. Click "Sign In".
  20. You are now able to download any program available through DreamSpark.

OpenOffice is a multiplatform and multilingual office suite and an open-source project. Compatible with all other major office suites, the product is free to download, use, and distribute. (

  1. Navigate to
  2. Select "Download" from the top navigation bar.
  3. Click "Download" Your file will begin downloading, choose "Run" or "Save".
  4. Once the download is finished, unpack the installer.
  5. In the installation wizard, click "Next".
  6. Select the location you would like to install OpenOffice.
  7. Click "Next".
  8. Click "Accept the Terms of Agreement", then click "Next".
  9. Enter your customer information and click "Next".
  10. Keep "Complete" checked off, click "Next".
  11. Decide whether or not you want OpenOffice as the default program for Microsoft documents, click "Next".
  12. Click "Install."
  13. Click "Finish."
  14. Open an OpenOffice application (you can access OpenOffice applications via "Start", "All Programs", "").
  15. Click "Next".
  16. Scroll down through the terms of Agreement and click "Accept".
  17. Enter your first name, last name, and initials.
  18. Leave the "check for updates automatically" box checked and click "Next".
  19. Click "Finish".

Note: Registration is voluntary. It is simply used to inform users about new developments with OpenOffice.
