GROUP LIFE INSURANCE

Optional term life insurance is available to you by payroll deduction. If you enroll during your first 6 months of employment, coverage is guaranteed. You will be required to provide evidence of insurability to enroll after your first six months of employment.

If you terminate employment for any reason you may contact the Comptrollers Life Insurance Unit to determine how arrangements may be made to continue life insurance.

SUPPLEMENTAL LIFE INSURANCE

Faculty, Administrators and Managers may be entitled to supplemental life insurance benefits. Eligibility for such insurance requires participation in the basic life insurance plan.

AT RETIREMENT

Upon retirement, you may receive a reduced life insurance policy based on years of state service. Premiums will be paid by the state. If you have 25 or more years of service, 50 percent of the basic group life insurance in force immediately prior to retirement is continued. If you had life insurance in force for at least five consecutive years while employed, you may convert the remainder of your coverage (or a lesser amount) to a personal whole life plan with Medical Life Insurance Company (MLI) without evidence of insurability. The supplemental coverage for employees not covered by collective bargaining may not be included when calculating the amount of reduced coverage available to retired employees.
