Transfer Admissions Guidelines
Making the transition to Central Connecticut State University is easy! Whether you are transferring from a community college or a four-year college or university, the Admissions staff is available to make your transition as smooth as possible. Admission to CCSU is primarily based on your academic achievement. Typically, CCSU likes to admit students with a college grade point average of a C or better after completing at least 12 or more college-level credits (not including remedial coursework) from regionally accredited institutions.
Credit is typically awarded to students who earn a C- or higher in 100 level or above course work from regionally accredited institutions. Developmental or basic course work is and will not be accepted. All academic courses with a passing grade (D- or higher) will transfer from Eastern, Southern or Western Connecticut State Universities. Pass/Fail courses are generally NOT eligible for transfer credit except for recreation/physical education courses from any institution and all courses from Connecticut State University institutions. A transfer credit evaluation showing how each previous course transfers to the University will be mailed with your decision letter. Regardless of the number of credits transferred, a student must complete a minimum of 30 credits at CCSU in order to earn the University's bachelor's degree.
Central Connecticut State University requires all applicants to have graduated from an approved secondary school or have obtained a General Equivalency Diploma (GED). In addition, the university requires Transfer students to submit the following credentials to the Office of Admissions in order to be considered for admission. The deadline to apply for the fall semester is June 1st and December 1st for the spring semester.
- Submit an online application at http://web.ccsu.edu/applyonline/. When you apply online, be sure to have your supplemental information sent by mail (see below for address).
- $50.00 non-refundable application fee. Online applicants will be asked to submit the $50.00 application fee prior to submission of online application.
- Transfer students must submit their official transcript(s) from all post-secondary institutions attended. Hand delivered transcripts will not be accepted and are not considered official.
- Applicants are not required to submit SAT or ACT scores if the applicant has successfully completed more than twelve college level credits or has been out of school for more than five years.
- An optional personal essay on a topic of your choice.
- Recommendations letter(s) are optional.

Associate Degree Recipients
Applicants with Associates Degrees must meet the minimum GPA requirements for their selected program. All graduates of Connecticut State Community Colleges who are recipients of an Associate's Degree are admissible to CCSU. A minimum of two additional years of full-time study is required to complete a baccalaureate degree. Courses with grades of D+, D and D- are transferrable only if the student has earned an Associate's Degree from a Connecticut State Community College or Charter Oak State College. A student must earn a minimum grade of C- to fulfill Major Program requirements in the School of Engineering & Technology at CCSU. Additionally, students in Department of Engineering programs must earn a minimum grade of C- in all Additional Course Requirements and courses in Study Area IV, Skill Area I, and Skill Area II to meet degree requirements. Students considering transferring to CCSU are advised to submit an application at least three months prior to the semester in which they plan to enroll.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I register for classes?
Students should register for classes using the internet. Refer to the Student Technology Guide or Course Registration Booklet for instructions.
Can I change my schedule once I have registered for my classes?
You can make changes to your schedule until the end of the first week of classes.
You may drop a course up to the end of the third week of classes, and no record of the course whatsoever appears on your transcript.
You may withdraw from a course and receive a grade of “W” from the 3rd to the 8th week of classes. If you withdraw during this period a grade of “W” will appear on your transcript. Withdrawals will not be approved after the 8th week of classes without documentation of the extremity of the circumstances.
What is required to be a full time student?
A typical program of study for a CCSU student in good standing is considered to be 15 to 17 credits of academic work per semester, depending on classification and major. A full-time student must carry a minimum of 12 credits per semester.
How many credits do I need to complete at CCSU to earn my degree?
To earn a CCSU degree, you must complete a minimum of 30 CCSU credits with a minimum of 15 credits in your major and nine CCSU credits in your minor, if applicable, regardless of how many credits you transfer in. This requirement is called the residency requirement.
REMEMBER: You must be registered for 12 credits to remain a full-time student.
How do I find out how my transfer credits have been applied?
To get credit for a course you took and received a grade of C- or better, you need to go to the Office of Recruitment and Admissions, Davidson Hall, Room 107 or call (860)832-2278.
Who is my advisor?
Faculty advisors are assigned to students during the fifth week of the semester. Until that time your department chairperson or the staff at the SET Student Services Center can answer your questions or assist you.
Where do I park?
There are many parking options here at CCSU. Be careful not to park in a restricted lot. Please refer to the campus map.
