• We've Got an Outside Speaker for the Friday Seminar, April 25
  The regular BMS Friday seminar brings Dr David Goldhamer from UConn Storrs to speak about "The Origin and Developmental Potential of Muscle Stem Cells". Dr Goldhamer said that this review would be interesting background reading for his seminar.

• Time Again for Exit Interviews
  All graduating BMS and Biochemistry majors and minors must meet with a group of BMS faculty to complete the Portfolio Requirement. Interviews will be done in NC 204 (the BMS office) on Wednesday, May 7 and Thursday, May 8. Sign up on the sheet outside NC 204. More information is here.

• We Taught Him Biology, But Style Is Something You're Born With
  The December issue of Esquire Magazine has an article on "the rising stars" of high school teachers in New York City, and first on the list is alumnus Dan Rouillard (Bio-CMP, Spring 2003). I wonder where he got that "independent research" idea that he uses in his classes?

• They're Here! They're Here!
  The zebrafish colony at CCSU has its first residents (take a look: Fish Pic #1, Fish Pic #2, and Fish Pic #3). Betsy Dobbs-McAuliffe will be speaking at the regular Friday BMS seminar on Oct 26 about zebrafish embryology. Please come and hear about the latest research projects available for student involvement.

• Presentation on Career Opportunities in Health Care
  On April 10, the CCSU Economics Dept is sponsoring a talk by the Executive VP at Yale-New Haven Hospital titled "Health Care's Perfect Storm and the Career Opportunities It Will Create." Yes, I think that's a little creepy too, but it's true: health care providers are going to be in high demand for many years. This linked announcement has the complete information.

• Eastern Colleges Science Conference, April 11-13
  A large group of CCSU students and faculty is attending the ECSC at Niagara University this year, and final planning is underway. Here's a recent e-mail from Jim Mulrooney with trip details. If you're attending the conference, read the message, especially the part about departure time on Friday, April 11.

• Health Professions Conference at UConn Health Center
  Jan Figueroa, the Director of the Health Career Opportunity Programs at the UConn Health Center, writes:

  "On April 12th, our office is hosting an Admissions/Mentoring Conference for students interested in medicine, dental medicine, research, any of the health professions. I would like to know if you would assist me in getting the word out to interested students by forwarding this email and attachment, distributing it in classes or just posting it around campus. Anything you can do to assist would be greatly appreciated."

  The announcement is linked here. Note the two important phrases near the bottom: (1) No registration fee; and (2) light breakfast AND lunch will be served.
