Reinaliz Oquendo '24

Meet Reinaliz. She is a senior at Central, working toward a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. Last academic year, she received a scholarship from the CCSU Foundation, made possible by donors like you. Because of this support, she was able to continue her education.

Reinaliz’s career aspiration is to become an elementary school teacher. She was inspired by her experience at New Britain Parks & Recreation. Working in the afterschool and summer camp programs ignited her passion for working with kids, setting the course for her academic and professional journey.

“Throughout my academic journey, compassionate faculty were instrumental in my success. They supported and guided me, serving not only as educators but as invaluable mentors.

Every semester presented its unique set of rigorous coursework, but last semester was particularly hard for me. Knowing I would be student teaching full-time this semester with no time for a part-time job, I took on two part- time jobs last semester in addition to my studies and volunteer work. This was essential for saving towards this semester’s tuition and living expenses. The sacrifices were tough, but my passion for education and working with children kept me going.”
